Retail Pack Verification

The Veri-ID is an on-line multi-camera system, which identifies the correct lid and the correct container by verifying either the print decoration colours or the printed text (OCR code) or the product barcode whichever feature is unique for the container or the lid.

The Veri-ID system is able to verify the container (circular) in any orientation at speeds of up to 300 packs per minute. The lid is verified from the top whereas the container is verified from the side or could be verified from the bottom if the feature is viewable from below.

By using the optional rotation software tool the system can also verify the batch / lot / date code over-printed on the lid (circular) in any orientation.

If the container or the lid do not comply with the pre-set identity, or the over-printed data do not comply with the pre-set data then the system rejects the pack from the line, therefore ensuring that only validated packs are further processed on the line.

The Veri-ID system helps the food processor prevent pack mismatch, reduce product re-work, product recalls and EPW fines.

Dimaco also provides a remote vision support package (RVSP) via a VNC link. Fault diagnosis is almost instantaneous and our engineers are able to provide rapid response to any technical support queries.

The Veri-ID system uses colour cameras to analyse the colour mix on the lid or container decoration to deduce the unique colour signature of the lid or the container respectively. Similarly it uses a monochrome camera to analyse the printed text / code to profile the pre-printed text / overprinted OCR data character set.

The system is initially trained during production by imaging randomly oriented samples of the lid and the container. This allows the system to study the colour mix and the variation in each colour during the random orientation of the samples. From this it builds up a colour signature profile to uniquely identify of the respective lid or container. Similarly for the recognition of the text or OCR character set it also analyses a number of samples of the same text or OCR character set to build a font profile for the text or OCR characters. The trained colour signature profile and the text / OCR font profile is subsequently stored and used to verify the match between the trained set and subsequent production set of lids and containers.

The online system also generates identification statistics terms of correct / incorrect match counts for the lid and the container. Secondly it also generates production statistics in terms of batch yield percentage and inspection rate.
